The novelty of this year’s RAFF is the start of cooperation with the embassies of countries in Croatia. To have an easier, or more direct, cultural exchange with countries whose cinematography we definitely need to know but don’t often have the opportunity to see, cooperation with embassies in Croatia opens up the possibility to enable our audience to focus on great films that are beyond their reach. It is a great honour for us that the first RAFF partner country is the Kingdom of Denmark. Whose ambassador H.E. Ole Frijs-Madsen reacted very friendly to our proposal, and quite openly and readily participated in creating the program we named “The Danish Landing Day” at RAFF.
“ The Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Croatia is pleased to be a partner of this year’s RAFF Film Festival on Rab. Democracy, freedom of speech, independent journalism, transparency, diversity and sustainability are some of the key foundations for our country. Many of these have also been enshrined in the so-called Copenhagen-criteria which form the basis for the core values of all present and future EU members. Digitalisation and SoMe open new avenues in this regard but also risks of misuse.
A close dialogue with the next generation of Croats is crucial. We look forward to The Danish Landing Day on 24 August on Rab to exchange views on these and other issues with young journalists and filmmakers.” – stated H.E. Frijs-Madsen.
“The Danish Landing Day” 24.08. begins the RAFF Talk with a conversation by H.E. Ole Frijs-Madsen and H.E. Anna Boda, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden in Croatia, on the topic – Disinformation as a source of information: a diplomatic perspective. Elizabeta Gojan, HRT journalist, will moderate the conversation.
At 12:00 p.m. in the Winter Cinema, we are screening the Danish-Bosnian documentary film “The Sky Above Zenica”, directed by Nanna Frank Møller and Zlatko Pranjić.
At 20:15 in the Summer Cinema, starts a screening of the Danish feature film “The Promised Land”, directed by Nikolaj Alcer, with Mads Mikkelsen in the lead role. This film was nominated for an Oscar this year. The screenings of both films on Rab are also Croatian premieres.
