After a successful premiere at the Pula Film Festival, a film directed by Goran Kulenović „Death of the little match girl” is coming to a location of its story – the town of Rab, where on August 18. is to be openened the 5th anniversary RAFF – Rab Film Festival. And for the first time with a simultaneous screening in three cinemas – the Open Cinema, the Winter Cinema, and the completely new Kulica Cinema – which the RAFF co-organizers are building especially for this occasion as a new place for film screenings in Rab.
It is a film entirely shot in the City of Rab, based on Zoran Ferić’s novel „Death of the little match girl” and co-financed by HAVC and HRT, with the support of the City of Rab, the Public Open University of Rab, TZ Rab and TZ Lopar, and many other citizens of the city and island of Rab, who participate in the film.
The film tells the story on the island of Rab, in the early autumn of 1992. Pathologist Fero, a freshly divorced 40-year-old, comes to the island town where he spent most of his childhood with his widowed father, to attend the funeral of his friend Globus’s daughter, little Mirna. On the island, in the off-season, strange things happen: there is talk of the appearance of a huge lizard, the local redicule Ranko accuses the friars of sawing little Mirna in half, and the climax is the murder of the ” Little Match Girl ” – a Romanian transsexual Marillena who was engaged in prostitution and her partners infected with gonorrhea. The investigation of the murder is handled by Fera’s good friend, the chief of the island’s police, Mungos, who draws Fera more and more into the investigation. Thanks to the medical records of those who were treated for gonorrhea on the island, the circle of suspects is expanding: some of them are respectable citizens, some are friends of Mungos and Feri.
